Day 14: Leaving Utah and Hanging in Idaho

We didn't get quite as far as Salt Lake City like we planned, but we discovered that Utah has some big mountains and some beautiful scenery. Like we said previously, we're coming back to check out Utah again. Our friends told us that Park City, UT is a great place to visit, but we didn't have time at this point.

The kids broke the code on sleeping in the truck. So far Rebecca is the one who hasn't slept on the floor.
Finally made it to ID. Few more hours into our friends in Meridian, ID. They suggested we stop in a town called Twin Falls and see Niagara Falls of the West, Shoshone Falls. It was well worth the stop.
These falls are about 50 ft higher than Niagara Falls.
We spoke to a lady on the viewing platform who said she had been coming there 62 years and this was the most water she had ever seen come over the falls.
This is down river from the falls. A man told me that there are sturgeon in the river, restocked by the Dept of Fish and Wildlife. He also said many years ago there were fish caught that were so large they had to get horses to haul them out of the river. I'll stick with my pond fishing back in GA.

The girls all enjoyed this place especially once we saw some animals. This thing was called a Rockchuck, I guess a close relative to the Woodchuck. We also saw rabbits and lizards.

As it turns out this is right near the location that Eval Knievel tried to jump his rocket bike over the Snake River. The down river picture a few back is down towards where the board indicates.

We found out friends from our first assignment in the Army were in Meridian, ID, near Boise and figured since we were heading north we had to go back west a little and visit. We had a wonderful time and they were great hosts. While it had been 18 years since we had seen each other it was almost like yesterday when we got together and an started catching up. Their four girls and our three girls hit it off and we all promised not to wait so long to catch up with each other again.

I was told that ID was the best kept secret for great places to live. I never imagined it woud be so beautiful and diverse. Plenty of open space, rivers, mountains, snow and I'm told pretty nice in the summer. Another state we're going to have to come back to visit.

Homemade pizzas were the dinner meal the second night. Everyone enjoyed putting their own toppings.
Dad is legit. End of story. Didn't even drop the dough.
Two guys with nine girls. How did we survive?
Had to throw this in for my buddy Mike. Too bad I wasn't wearing my Georgia Bulldogs shirt.
Doug called this Hillbilly golf. We had seen the game in Hawaii, I think they called it Portugee golf there. Regardless of what it was called we had fun.
ya we are pretty legit sitting on a roof ( we were watching our parents play hillbilly golf)!!!
We even got to fish on evening. Doug told me that ID fish and wildlife stocks these small ponds all over the state. This one was adjacent to a sports field and was just about 5 minutes from their house.

Thanks so much to our friends the Jacobsons and their daughters for their hospitality and friendship. We look forward to returning the favor when you come through the South!
