Day 16: Leaving Idaho and getting to Yellowstone

As I said, Idaho is a beautiful state....
and we hope to come back.
Traveling towards Yellowstone Mary noticed this in the sky.
The girls thought that the mountains looked like zebras with the melting snow.
We drove on a back road through the Craters of the Moon National Park. Huge lava fields...very much like on the Big Island.
We had to conquer the large black lava hill!  Rebecca was 1st.
Mary would have none of that.
Then it was Katherine and Mom.
As Dad reached the top and posed for the photo....
The girls hightailed it back to the truck.  But why would they do such a thing?
Because they were freezing! It was 40 degrees.

We went through a small town that the local high school had painted their graduation years on the side of a mountain.
Oh, what kind of animal is this? Should we be fearful of it?
Getting close to West Yellowstone where we are bedding down for the night and we see this moose!
 Goodbye Idaho.
Our hotel had this contraption over the front door...a large trap of some sort.  Are we going to be safe in Yellowstone?
